The development of a child’s brain holds the key to a child's future and helps to shape who they are going to become.

A number of factors influence early brain development – genetics, food and nutrition, responsiveness of primary care givers, daily experiences and interactions, physical activity and most important of all, LOVE

The outside world and the environment plays a huge role in shaping the development of a child's brain from birth through the experiences a child senses.

The five senses are critical to brain development.

Vision, hearing, smell, touch and taste. These five senses make up an integral part of our curriculum at Sunshine House.

There is a specifically designed and miraculously beautiful order to our universe and Mother Earth. Why are we then surprised that there is an order and a timing to the development of the brain?

From birth, the brain grows in a sequential fashion, from top to bottom and the development proceeds in waves, with different parts of the brain activating at different times (almost like the earth’s seasons).

A three year old child’s brain is twice as active as an adult’s and this is a fact.

There are sensitive and specific times when areas of the brain are being developed from the moment of birth and once those periods have passed in early childhood the opportunity to renew is significantly reduced. These areas of brain development are addressed at Sunshine House by both interaction with the child in our wonderful environment and by the specific training of our teaching staff.

With the use of sensory and other activities we ensure the best opportunities for learning and growth when the child's mind is most ready to absorb new information, particularly during the critical learning periods.

This includes visual and auditory development, language development, physical and motor development, and social and emotional development.
